Handcrafted Knitwear with the

Silver Reed Manual Knitting Machine.

Producing high-quality knitwear from wool using the manually operated Silver Reed knitting machine is a time-honored, electricity-free process that blends tradition with creativity.

This mechanical knitting tool is easy to install and operate, making it accessible for artisans and hobbyists alike. Despite its manual nature, the Silver Reed offers remarkable versatility and precision, ideal for crafting a wide range of garments and accessories.

The machine allows the creation of a vast array of stitch patterns, starting from the classic and smooth stockinette stitch, which forms the foundation of many designs. With a few settings, knitters can explore textured patterns such as the slip stitch, known for its decorative, woven-like effects, and the tuck stitch, which creates soft, voluminous textures perfect for cozy wearables.

For more intricate designs, the Silver Reed machine supports Fair Isle knitting, enabling two-color work with endless possibilities. These patterns range from geometric motifs to florals and complex traditional designs, offering both aesthetic beauty and warmth.

Thanks to the adjustable settings, the machine can produce fabric in a wide range of thicknesses—from delicate, breathable summer knits to dense, insulating winter wear.

The Silver Reed’s manual functionality empowers creators to control each aspect of their design, encouraging a slower, more mindful approach to textile production. It’s a sustainable, tactile, and immensely satisfying way to turn natural wool into timeless, handcrafted garments.
